In brief, the MKV file format is not supported on Hisense TV. So, you can’t access the files directly when connected with an external USB flash drive. How to Play MKV Files on Hisense TV Using Media Players
To my knowledge, most Hisense Smart TVs don’t come with built-in media players to play the MKV files. In that case, you can install external media players from the respective app stores to play the MKV files. Based on the compatibility, I’ve listed the best media players for each Hisense TV model.
As a pre-requisite, make sure you connect your USB flash drive to your Hisense TV to access the local MKV files using the respective media player.
Hisense VIDAA TV:
For Hisense VIDAA models, you can install the Plex Media Player to play the MKV files.
- Choose the My Apps tab on the home screen.
- Next, open the VIDAA App Store and input Plex.
- Select the Plex app and click on Install to download the media player.
- Open the app, get the Plex code, and activate the app by visiting the plex.tv/link.
- Now, upload the MKV files to the Plex server and start playing the content on your Hisense TV using the Plex app.
Hisense Roku TV:
For Hisense Roku TV, you can install the Roku Media Player app to access the MKV files.
- From the Hisense Roku TV Home, select Streaming Channels.
- Choose Search Channels and enter Roku Media Player using the virtual keyboard.
- Pick the app and click the Add Channel button to get the media player.
- Open the Roku Media Player and tap on Allow.
- Now, you can select your external USB drive and access the MKV file.
Hisense Fire TV:
Users with Hisense Fire TV can sideload the MX Player Pro app to access the MKV file format.
- Open the Appstore on your Hisense Fire TV and download the Downloader app.
- Then, navigate to Settings and enable Downloader under the Install Unknown Apps option.
- Open the MX Player Pro app, input the MX Player Pro APK URL, and hit Go.
- Install the MX Player Pro app and launch it.
- Open and allow the MX player to access your local storage.
- Select the MKV file you want to play on your Fire TV.
Hisense Android & Google TV:
Use the VLC Media Player to access the MKV files on your Hisense Android and Google TV.
- Open the Google Play Store and enter VLC.
